When Sharon Dworkin Bell with the National Association of Home Builders presented at the Epcon Communities Franchising annual conference, she outlined compelling data on the Baby Boomer demographic and how it is creating growth opportunities in the 55+ housing market.

The 79 million Americans who are 55 and older have substantially more wealth than any other age group, Bell says, which makes them not only the most attractive demographic for home builders, but also the demographic most likely to purchase a home. Metrostudy research reports that those 55 and older will buy more than half of the new homes sold in the next five years.

Bell also says that nearly half of 55+ homebuyers bought their homes without a mortgage in 2013, citing data culled from The American Housing Survey.
