Ohio’s First Zero Energy Custom Home Builder Signs with Epcon Franchising
Akron Canton-based Charis Homes to develop low maintenance communities of luxury ranch homes
Epcon Franchising (Epcon) announced today that Charis Homes, an award-winning custom builder of energy-efficient homes, will build its first Epcon community in Northeast Ohio.
The first 74 homes will be built within the City of Green off Massillon Rd. More than fifty percent of the City of Green is over the age of 55, making it an ideal location for the addition of homes that are popular with 55+ buyers. Adding to its appeal, the community will be near the interstate, robust shopping options and many other features that appeal to home buyers.
“I first became aware of Epcon when I visited a model home in Charlotte, NC and immediately saw the opportunities available to us within their franchise business model,” said Glenna Wilson, co-owner of Charis Homes with her business partner, Todd Scott. “We do not have anything like this in the Green area and believe Epcon’s proven franchise model will give Charis Homes a competitive advantage in the region.”
Epcon offers Franchise Builders like Charis Homes the opportunity to expand their product portfolio into the 55+ market by giving them access to proven home designs, development strategies, marketing resources, sales, training, national buying programs and a network of Franchise Builders across the country to learn from.
“As a native of Northeast Ohio, I have long been an admirer of Charis Homes’ leadership in building exceptional energy-efficient custom homes in the Akron-Canton area,” said Paul Hanson, President of Epcon Franchising. “The 74 homes they plan to build in southern Summit County will appeal to buyers that crave low-maintenance single-story living. I was thrilled to see them join our system and look forward to combining our expertise in this important niche with their local market knowledge and brand prestige.”
Charis Homes was one of the limited number of homebuilders nationwide to receive the EPA’s 2019 and 2018 airPLUS Leader Award. This annual award recognizes market leading organizations who promote safer, healthier and more comfortable indoor environments by participating with Indoor airPLUS and offering enhanced indoor air quality protections for their new home buyers.
Development of the initial 74 homes began in October 2019, with all the homes scheduled to be completed within 3 years.
